Prince Harry seemingly just popped the question to American actress Meghan Markle, and already their engagement has been plagued by scandal. Now, it seems that Meghan, a known Trump-hater, has tried to invite Barack and Michelle Obama to her royal wedding. Unfortunately for her, the Queen was quick to set her straight.
Prince Harry fostered a friendship with Former President Barack Obama during the Invictus Games, and Michelle Obama even used her official social media channels to promote the Prince’s project.
Prince Harry has also interviewed Barack Obama for BBC Radio 4’s Today show. In another sign of their friendship, Obama tweeted his congratulations to Harry and Meghan when the pair announced their engagement last month, saying he and the former first lady were “delighted.” He added, “We wish you a lifetime of joy and happiness together.”
Now, Harry and Meghan want to invite the Obamas to attend their wedding celebration. However, the Queen has put the kibosh on that idea, seeing as it would be sure to offend President Donald Trump, who will not be invited.
Britain’s relationship with the Trump administration has sunk to its lowest point since the presidential election last year, and the fact that Prince Harry has chosen to marry an ardent Trump-hater hasn’t helped matters. In fact, Meghan was one of the many misguided celebrities who threatened to move to Canada if Trump won.
Markle, who stars in the show “Suits,” appeared on “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore” in May 2016. While she was on the show, she was asked how Trump could be stopped. “It’s really the moment that I go, we film ‘Suits’ in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada,” she said. “I mean come on, if that’s reality we are talking about, come on, that is a game changer in terms of how we move in the world here.”
Considering this, it’s no wonder the Queen is remiss to allow Meghan and Harry to include the Obamas on their guest list. One more snub and Trump just might cut off the UK completely, like he did with the UN.
“Harry has made it clear he wants the Obamas at the wedding, so it’s causing a lot of nervousness,” said a senior source within the British government. “Trump could react very badly if the Obamas get to a Royal wedding before he has had a chance to meet the Queen,” the source continued.
“Conversations are ongoing about (it) and ministers will eventually have to decide. If the PM lays down the law, Harry will just have to suck it up,” added the source.
As the wedding is not a state occasion, the Government only have a consultative role in its organization and heads of state will not be invited.
The guest list is instead being drawn up in full by Buckingham Palace rather than the Department of Culture, Media and Sport – which presides over national events such as state funerals.
Tensions with Trump are at a high after a series of rows between him and the PM in the Autumn.

Meghan Markle is proving to be a major PR nightmare for the royal family, and she just got engaged. This girl is going to need to learn to keep her big, liberal mouth shut if she wants to ride the gravy train as a member of the royal family for the rest of her life.
